Continuing to recover--we need each other!
June 26th, 2008 11:30 AM

We continue to recover from the devastating floods that have left devastation in their wake.  We think first of all those who lost homes and personal possessions in the disaster and our prayers constantly include all of them.  But we must not forget the local business owners as they struggle to reestablish themselves and carry on in the face of this crisis.  The Greater Martinsville Chamber of Commerce is continually disseminating information to its members and have asked that we try to reach as many people as possible.  Please let me know what other information you might need and I'll try to find answers for you and put you in touch with the resources you need.

Be faithful Martinsville!

This information was provided through the Chamber of Commerce.

Good news for local business owners!  Morgan County EDC will have funds to help businesses get back on their feet

John Taylor, Executive Director of the Morgan County EDC announced on Friday that the EDC will be able to make funds available to the local businesses to help them until they receive their FEMA loans/grants or their insurance proceeds. They will charge a 1% fee for the money for the first 90 days and 4% interest rate for the funds beginning at 90 days. This will allow small businesses that need items like computers, cash registers, machinery or the like to get back up and running and not wait for the federal or insurance funds.

They have also applied for an additional $100,000 from USDA which should be available in about 10-14 days. USDA was grateful to hear that the EDC intended to use these funds in this manner.

John and Jeff Pipkin, Deputy Director can be reached at 317-831-9544.

BEWARE: Flooding, recovery and contractors
June 15th, 2008 7:53 PM

Martinsville, Morgan County and central Indiana have been hard hit by the recent flooding.  My prayers are with all who have lost so much and are struggling to find their way through the maze of red tape.  FEMA is assessing damaged homes daily and the clean up effort is in full swing.  Be careful as you choose contractors and service providers to assist in this effort.  If you have any questions regarding the services that may be offered by contractors review the information on the  Indiana State Attorney General's website at http://www.in.gov/attorneygeneral/.  There is a wealth of information and help for you there.

Again, God bless you all and please let me know how I can help you through this difficult time.

Julie
